Part 2: My Husband Brought Home His Secretary and Newborn Twins—Then His Mother Offered Me $80 Million to Disappear

PART 2 — The Twins Were Never Connor’sPaige’s smile vanished.

Beatrice snatched the report from Connor’s trembling hand and scanned the page.

Her eyes stopped on the diagnosis printed beneath his name: congenital azoospermia. The specialist’s conclusion was unmistakable. Connor could never father children naturally.

“Gwen forged this,” Beatrice said, but her voice lacked conviction.

I rested one hand on my suitcase. “Call the clinic. The number is on the report.”

Connor stared at Paige. “Whose babies are they?”

She tightened her arms around the twins. “The test could be wrong.”

“The clinic repeated it three times,” I said. “Those boys may deserve answers, but they don’t deserve this scene.”

Connor lunged toward Paige, demanding the truth. One infant woke and began crying. The second followed, their voices filling the marble foyer while Beatrice tried desperately to quiet everyone.

I stepped outside.

By midnight, my attorney had filed emergency motions freezing every company account connected to Paige’s consulting contracts. At dawn, the board received copies of invoices, wire transfers, and apartment payments

Connor had authorized with corporate funds.

At nine, I entered Albright Apex headquarters through the private executive entrance.

Connor was already in the boardroom, disheveled and furious. Paige had disappeared during the night, taking the babies with her.

“You planned this,” he accused.

“No,” I replied, taking the chair at the head of the table. “You did. I simply kept records.”

The directors voted to suspend him before lunch.

Beatrice arrived moments later, still carrying the medical report. For the first time since I had known her, she looked frightened.

“You’ve humiliated this family.”

“You offered me eighty million dollars to vanish.”

Her mouth hardened. “And you should have accepted.”

I opened my folder and placed the uncashed check before the board.

“That payment came from an account Connor didn’t control.”

Beatrice froze.

The transfer originated from a private trust linked to Albright Apex’s missing reserve funds—money investigators had been

tracing for months.

Before anyone could question her, the boardroom doors opened.

Paige stepped inside alone, holding a DNA report and smiling directly at Beatrice.

“The twins aren’t Connor’s,” she said. “But their father is an Albright.”

Every eye turned toward Beatrice as Paige placed an old photograph on the table.

My Husband Brought Home His Secretary and Newborn Twins—Then His Mother Offered Me $80 Million to Disappear

For several seconds, no one moved.

The photograph showed three people standing beside a sailboat nearly thirty years earlier.

A much younger Beatrice stood in the center wearing white linen and dark sunglasses. Connor’s late father, Harrison Albright, had one arm around her waist.

Beside them stood another man.

He looked enough like Connor to make the resemblance impossible to ignore.

Same sharp jaw.

Same narrow gray eyes.

Same slight curve at the corner of his mouth.

Connor stared at the photograph.

“Who is that?”

Beatrice’s expression hardened.

“No one.”

Paige gave a quiet laugh.

“You should probably stop lying now.”

One of the directors shifted uncomfortably.

My attorney, Daniel Mercer, remained beside me without speaking. He had already warned me that whatever happened in the boardroom should be treated as potential evidence.

Connor picked up the photograph.

His fingers tightened around it.

“Mother.”

Beatrice looked at Paige instead.

“How much?”

Paige blinked.

“What?”

“How much money do you want?”

The room went silent.

Paige slowly lowered herself into the chair opposite Beatrice.

“That’s always your solution, isn’t it?”

Beatrice’s face did not change.

“Everyone has a price.”

Paige glanced at me.

“Apparently not everyone.”

I said nothing.

She pushed the DNA report toward Connor.

“Read page three.”

Connor snatched it up.

His eyes moved rapidly down the page.

I watched his face as confusion became disbelief.

Then something colder.

“This says the biological father shares approximately twenty-five percent of my DNA.”

Daniel spoke for the first time.

“That degree of shared DNA is consistent with several possible relationships.”

Paige nodded.

“Half brother. Uncle. Grandfather. Certain other close relationships.”

Connor looked toward the photograph again.

“Who is he?”

Beatrice’s mouth remained tightly closed.

Paige answered for her.

“Julian Albright.”

Connor frowned.

“I don’t have an uncle named Julian.”

“No,” Paige said softly. “Officially, you don’t.”

Beatrice stood.

“This meeting is over.”

I leaned back in my chair.

“No, it isn’t.”

She looked at me as though she had forgotten I was there.

That was Beatrice’s greatest weakness.

She believed power belonged to whoever spoke with the most certainty.

For years, people had mistaken her confidence for authority.

But authority was written in contracts.

In voting agreements.

In trust documents.

And today, fifty-one percent of the voting authority in Albright Apex belonged to me.

I folded my hands on the table.

“You came into my home last night, offered me eighty million dollars, and ordered me to disappear. This morning, we discovered the check may be connected to reserve funds that should never have touched your private trust.”

Her nostrils flared.

“You know nothing about those funds.”

“I know enough to ask questions.”

Daniel placed a folder beside me.

“And federal investigators will ask considerably more.”

Beatrice looked toward him.

For the first time, I saw genuine fear cross her face.

Connor noticed it too.

“Federal investigators?”

I turned toward him.

“There have been irregular transfers from several dormant development accounts.”

His expression changed.

“You told me those were accounting reallocations.”

“I told you I was reviewing them. You stopped attending audit meetings six months ago.”

His jaw tightened.

Because Paige had begun attending instead.

Paige leaned back.

“That’s because Connor was busy expanding the company.”

“No,” I said. “Connor was busy spending it.”

His eyes flashed toward me.

“Be careful.”

I almost smiled.

“About what?”

He rose abruptly.

The suspension vote had removed his operational authority, but his body still behaved as though the room belonged to him.

“You think because you own a majority voting position, you can destroy everything my family built?”

I looked at him for several seconds.

“Your family?”

That quieted him.

I continued.

“Who negotiated the Stanton acquisition?”

Silence.

“Who restructured the Marlow debt?”

Nothing.

“Who convinced three pension funds not to withdraw after your father’s accounting scandal?”

Connor looked away.

I knew the answer.

So did everyone else.

I had spent twelve years repairing the Albright name.

Connor had spent the last year believing the polished result belonged to him.

Beatrice stepped toward me.

“This company carries my family’s name.”

I met her gaze.

“And most of its voting power carries mine.”

Paige tapped the photograph.

“You’re all talking about the wrong thing.”

Connor turned toward her.

“Then talk.”

She looked at Beatrice.

“Tell him about Julian.”

Beatrice remained standing.

For a moment, I thought she would refuse.

Then one of the older directors, Samuel Whitmore, suddenly whispered, “My God.”

Everyone looked at him.

Samuel was seventy-three and had served on the board since Harrison Albright founded the original firm.

His eyes were fixed on the photograph.

“You remember him,” Paige said.

Samuel looked at Beatrice.

“You told us Julian died.”

Connor stepped toward Samuel.

“Who was he?”

Samuel hesitated.

Beatrice snapped, “Do not answer him.”

That was enough.

Connor’s face changed.

“Tell me.”

Samuel slowly removed his glasses.

“Julian was Harrison’s younger brother.”

Connor looked at Beatrice.

“You told me my father was an only child.”

“He became one.”

The cruelty of the sentence chilled even me.

Samuel looked down.

“There was a dispute between the brothers.”

“What kind of dispute?” Connor demanded.

Samuel said nothing.

Beatrice answered.

“Julian was unstable.”

Paige laughed.

“He was inconvenient.”

Beatrice’s eyes sharpened.

“You know nothing about him.”

“I know he owned thirty percent of the original Albright investment partnership.”

Every director in the room suddenly became attentive.

Daniel turned slightly toward Paige.

“Where did you obtain that information?”

“From Julian.”

Connor stared at her.

“He’s alive?”

Paige held his gaze.

“Yes.”

Beatrice gripped the back of her chair.

Her composure cracked.

Only for an instant.

But I saw it.

And so did Paige.

“That’s impossible,” Beatrice said.

“No,” Paige replied. “It was expensive. There’s a difference.”

I watched Paige carefully.

The woman who had stood in my home holding newborn twins no longer looked like Connor’s nervous secretary.

She looked prepared.

Too prepared.

This had not begun with an affair.

The realization settled slowly.

Paige had not stumbled into the Albright family.

She had entered it deliberately.
