Daniel looked proud when the lawyers entered the mansion.
Chapter 2
Daniel looked proud when the lawyers entered the mansion.
Like a king preparing to announce judgment.
Yuna stood beside him in a silk robe, arms folded confidently, while the house staff gathered silently along the walls of the grand hall.
Rainlight filtered through the towering windows, casting pale shadows across the marble floor.
One of the lawyers adjusted his glasses.
“Mr. Park,” he said carefully, “before proceeding, we need all involved parties present.”
Daniel gestured toward me dismissively.
“She’s here.”
The lawyer’s eyes shifted to me.
And immediately, his expression changed.
Recognition.
Not toward Daniel.
Toward me.
Very subtle.
But enough.
I noticed Yuna watching the interaction carefully now.
Daniel remained oblivious.
He walked toward the fireplace and poured himself a drink.
“As everyone knows,” he began arrogantly, “this marriage has been over for a long time.”
Nobody spoke.
Even the staff looked uncomfortable.
Daniel continued anyway.
“So today we’ll settle everything cleanly. The house, assets, and divorce documents
The younger lawyer swallowed nervously.
“Actually…”
Daniel frowned.
“What?”
The older attorney stepped forward cautiously.
“There appears to be a misunderstanding regarding property ownership.”
Daniel laughed once.
“What misunderstanding?”
The lawyer opened a black leather folder.
“The estate legally belongs to Mrs. Aiko Sato.”
Silence.
Not ordinary silence.
The kind that physically changes the air in a room.
Yuna blinked first.
Daniel didn’t move at all.
“What did you say?” he asked quietly.
The lawyer continued carefully.
“The mansion, land rights, trust holdings, and associated assets were transferred three years ago through the Sato Family Preservation Trust.”
He slid several documents onto the marble table.
“All records list Mrs. Aiko Sato as sole legal owner.”
Daniel stared at the papers.
Then at me.
Then back again.
“That’s impossible.”
“No,” I said calmly.
“It isn’t.”
Yuna stepped backward slowly.
“What… what does that mean?”
I finally looked at her
“It means you redecorated my house yesterday.”
Her face lost color instantly.
Daniel grabbed the documents violently.
“This has to be fake.”
The lawyer stiffened immediately.
“Sir, these are registered legal filings.”
Daniel’s voice rose sharply.
“You told me this property was ours!”
I tilted my head slightly.
“No. You assumed.”
The room remained frozen.
Even the rain outside seemed quieter now.
Daniel’s breathing became uneven.
“You hid this from me?”
“You never asked.”
The answer hit harder than shouting.
Yuna looked between us desperately, trying to understand how the power in the room had shifted so quickly.
Suddenly, she wasn’t standing beside the owner of a mansion.
She was standing beside a man being removed from one.
Daniel slammed the documents onto the table.
“I’m your husband!”
“And this was my grandfather’s home long before you arrived.”
His jaw tightened.
“You think money makes you powerful?”
I smiled
“No.”
I stepped closer slowly.
“But truth does.”
The older lawyer cleared his throat.
“There is another matter.”
Daniel looked ready to explode.
“What now?”
The lawyer opened a second file.
“Mrs. Sato also owns sixty-one percent of Park Holdings through silent investment acquisitions made during the financial crisis two years ago.”
Daniel went completely still.
Park Holdings.
His company.
The company he constantly bragged about building alone.
Yuna whispered softly, “What?”
I looked at Daniel calmly.
“When your investors abandoned you, someone quietly purchased the debt instead of letting your company collapse.”
Daniel stared at me like he no longer recognized my face.
“You…”
“Yes.”
His hands trembled now.
Not with anger.
With humiliation.
Because suddenly every expensive suit, every business award, every arrogant speech he gave at parties had become unbearable in hindsight.
He wasn’t self-made.
He survived because of the woman he just humiliated publicly.
Yuna took another step away from him.
A very small step.
But everyone noticed.
Daniel noticed too.
“Aiko,” he said carefully now, his tone completely different, “we can talk about this privately.”
“No.”
The single word echoed sharply through the hall.
For the first time in years, I saw fear in his eyes.
Real fear.
Not fear of losing money.
Fear of losing control.
“You brought your mistress into my home,” I said quietly. “You introduced me as staff. You planned to remove me from a property you never owned.”
Nobody moved.
Nobody breathed.
I reached into the folder calmly.
Then placed one final document onto the table.
An eviction notice.
For both of them.
Yuna stared at it like she’d been slapped.
Daniel’s face darkened immediately.
“You’re throwing me out?”
I looked directly into his eyes.
“You already threw yourself out the moment you forgot whose name built these walls.”
The room fell silent again.
Deep. Heavy. Crushing.
Then came the smallest sound in the entire mansion.
The soft click of Yuna placing her wine glass down with trembling fingers.
Because at that exact moment, she realized something horrifying.
She was never replacing the wife.
She was only temporary entertainment for a man who owned nothing at all.
Daniel looked around desperately now.
At the staff.
At the lawyers.
At the mansion.
But the illusion was gone.
Every person in the room knew the truth.
And worse…
They knew I had remained silent long enough to let him destroy himself completely.
