PART 3 — THE SECRET HIDDEN IN LOGAN’S DNA

The divorce came three months later.

Ugly.

Public.

Explosive.

Chloe fought viciously.

But the recordings destroyed her credibility.

Eventually she accepted a settlement and left.

The family divided instantly.

Some supported her.

Others supported Logan.

Most disappeared entirely.

I was fine with that.

Peace returned.

Or so I thought.

Then came the final surprise.

The one nobody saw coming.

Not even me.

—

Six months after the divorce, I received a call from a private investigator.

A man I had hired during the court battle.

“Mrs. Harper,” he said.

“I found something unusual.”

My stomach tightened.

“What?”

“It concerns Logan.”

The investigator sounded hesitant.

“Your son isn’t who he says he is.”

I laughed.

“Excuse me?”

“Please come to my office.”

—

The evidence waiting there changed my life forever.

DNA reports.

Birth records.

Hospital documents.

Old photographs.

The investigator spread them across the desk.

“Your son already knew.”

I felt dizzy.

“What are you talking

about?”

The investigator took a breath.

“Logan isn’t your biological son.”

The room spun.

“That’s impossible.”

But it wasn’t.

Forty years earlier, a clerical error at a hospital had swapped two newborn boys.

The mistake had never been discovered.

Not until recently.

Not until Logan had taken a consumer DNA test.

A test that revealed something impossible.

We weren’t biologically related.

I stared at the documents.

Unable to process them.

Unable to breathe.

Unable to think.

Then came the next revelation.

The investigator slid over another file.

“This is your biological son.”

My hands shook.

A photograph stared back at me.

A man.

Forty years old.

Living three states away.

Married.

Two children.

A teacher.

His name was Daniel.

—

I spent weeks trying to understand.

Trying to feel something.

Anger.

Grief.

Shock.

Loss.

Eventually, I contacted him.

Then we met.

And the moment I saw him, I knew.

The

same eyes.

The same smile.

The same laugh my father had.

The resemblance was undeniable.

We talked for hours.

Then days.

Then weeks.

A relationship slowly formed.

Not replacing anything.

Just growing.

Naturally.

Unexpectedly.

Beautifully.
