MY DAUGHTER-IN-LAW HANDED ME POISONED COFFEE BEFORE I SIGNED AWAY MY TWELVE-MILLION-DOLLAR COMPANY
Chapter 1 / 3

Chapter 1

PART 1: MY DAUGHTER-IN-LAW HANDED ME POISONED COFFEE BEFORE I SIGNED AWAY MY TWELVE-MILLION-DOLLAR COMPANY

227 words

I was holding the pen that would transfer my $12 million company to my only son when my daughter-in-law placed a blue porcelain cup beside my hand.

“Drink first, Evelyn,” Ever said, smiling. “Then sign.”

Across the coffee table, Carlton leaned forward in his expensive suit, pretending to be concerned. The documents were already marked with yellow tabs. Every place requiring my signature had been prepared.

I should have noticed how impatient they were.

I should have noticed Ever wasn’t drinking from her own cup.

Instead, I lifted the coffee toward my lips.

That was when Rosa, my housekeeper of twenty years, rushed into the living room carrying a silver tray. She struck my elbow hard enough to spill coffee across my sleeve.

Ever jumped up. “What is wrong with you?”

Rosa dropped to her knees, pretending to wipe the carpet. Then she gripped my wrist and whispered without looking up.

“Don’t drink it. She put something in your cup.”

My blood went cold.

Ever turned away to rescue the transfer papers. Carlton began shouting at Rosa.

Neither of them saw me exchange my blue cup for Ever’s white one.

When Ever sat down again, she reached for the cup now in front of her.

She took one long sip.

Five minutes later, Ever’s smile vanished.

Her fingers began to shake.

Then she whispered, “Carlton… something’s wrong.”
