MY HUSBAND FORCED HIS HIGH-RISK PREGNANT WIFE TO SERVE HIS GUESTS WHILE HIS MISTRESS MOCKED HER

PART 1 — THE PROMISE HE BROKE IN SEVENTY-TWO HOURS

Pregnant Wife Humiliated by Husband wasn’t supposed to become the story that reporters would later describe as “the collapse of America’s fastest-rising venture capital dynasty.” When journalists eventually pieced together the timeline, they all searched for the exact moment everything started to fall apart.

Some believed it was the federal investigation announced two weeks later. Others insisted it began when investors abruptly withdrew hundreds of millions of dollars overnight. They were all wrong. The beginning was much smaller, much quieter, and almost invisible. It started upstairs in a sprawling mansion overlooking Lake Washington in Seattle, where a thirty-two-week pregnant woman lay on strict bed rest while laughter drifted through the ceiling from a party downstairs. At exactly 8:17 that evening, the first sound that truly mattered wasn’t a scream, an argument, or even a gunshot. It was the sickening crack of a woman’s head striking polished oak flooring while nearly two hundred wealthy guests continued drinking champagne without realizing that the empire they had gathered to celebrate had already begun collapsing beneath their feet.

My name is Natalie Harper, and for nearly seven years I convinced myself that my husband, Logan Prescott, loved me.

Looking back now, I understand that I wasn’t in love with the man Logan truly was. I was in love with the version he carefully performed for everyone else. To the public, he was the charming founder of Prescott Horizon Ventures, a venture capital firm that specialized in funding promising technology companies before they became household names. Every business magazine seemed to feature his smiling face. Every podcast called him a visionary. Television hosts praised his confidence, his generosity, and his incredible business instincts. People admired him because he donated to children’s hospitals, funded scholarships, and spoke passionately about family values during interviews. Whenever photographers caught us together at charity galas, he always placed one protective hand on my back and smiled as though I were the center of his universe. No one ever imagined that the same hand which gently guided me onto red carpets could become the hand

that dragged me across a bedroom floor when no cameras were watching.

Three days earlier, my maternal-fetal specialist, Dr. Rebecca Collins, had finished another ultrasound with an expression serious enough to silence the entire examination room. She pulled her stool closer to my hospital bed and folded her hands together before speaking. “Natalie,” she said quietly, “your pregnancy has become extremely fragile. Your cervix has shortened again, and you’re already experiencing contractions that shouldn’t be happening this early. I need you on complete bed rest immediately. No standing unless absolutely necessary, no household chores, no stress, no entertaining guests, and certainly no climbing stairs. Right now, every unnecessary movement increases the risk of premature labor.” She paused before looking directly at Logan. “If these babies arrive too soon, we may not be able to save both of them.” Logan had reached for my hand and squeezed it reassuringly. He nodded

with convincing sincerity and promised the doctor that he would personally make sure I never left the bed until it was safe. At the time, I believed every word he said.

Now, only seventy-two hours later, that promise meant absolutely nothing.

Music drifted faintly through the ceiling as glasses clinked somewhere below. Logan’s annual investor celebration had officially begun. Every autumn, the most influential entrepreneurs, hedge fund managers, senators, professional athletes, and celebrity executives on the West Coast gathered inside our mansion to celebrate another successful year for Prescott Horizon Ventures. Invitations to the event were almost impossible to obtain, and attending was considered a status symbol among Seattle’s elite. Caterers had spent two days transforming the house into something that resembled a luxury hotel. Thousands of white orchids decorated every room. Ice sculptures stood beneath crystal chandeliers. A live jazz band performed beside the grand staircase while servers carried silver trays loaded with imported champagne and rare caviar. Everyone downstairs believed they were witnessing another unforgettable night hosted by one of America’s brightest financial stars.

Meanwhile, I lay upstairs staring at the ceiling, counting each tiny movement my unborn twins made beneath my ribs. Every kick reassured me that they were still fighting alongside me. I rested both hands over my stomach and whispered softly, “Just a few more weeks. That’s all Mommy needs. Stay with me a little longer.”
